Biscuit’s Mom was Faced with A Life Changing Decision

Your holistic pet program saved my dog’s life! Biscuit is a five year old schnauzer and last month, while playing outside with a friend, he was hit by a car. I saw him get caught in a wheel and to my horror; he was then thrown fifteen feet. It was so awful. I ran as fast as I could but his head was lying to the side, and I thought he had broken his neck. He was barely breathing so I gently turned him to me…. My precious boy did not whimper or whine, but I was so scared.

I scooped him up and rushed him to the hospital. (It was $90 just to walk in the door.) There were two cuts on his head, cuts on his legs, a gash on his right thigh, and an awful road rash all over his body. My entire shirt was covered with blood. They took him to the back, and it seemed like an eternity before they came back to me. They told me they’d given him a pain killer shot, and that he was in shock, and they were taking x-rays to see what was broken. I was a bundle of nerves. To everyone’s amazement, NOTHING was broken. He had either torn or bruised the ACL on his left knee, and thought he had injured his right lung. I fell to the floor in tears, (knowing my baby that I’ve had since 7 weeks old) was still alive! The vet bill came to over $300.00 for the hour we were there. They insisted that I leave him overnight to administer more fluids, pain killers and antibiotics and the estimated bill would be about $1,000. I had a decision to make: to take him home and care for him myself or leave him there and let them do what they do.

When I thought about my options, I remembered your book. I wondered what you would have done and realized that the healing foods and treats might do more for him than even the medications. I prayed for a few minutes and decided to bring him home. I felt I could do a better job in my own safe, secure environment and couldn’t bear the thought of leaving him in a cage, shocked, hurt, and lonely. I remembered that you said it was important from a holistic point of view to support the body as well as the spirit. They told me he definitely wasn’t out of the woods but I felt in my heart it was the right thing to do.

We immediately went to work making a fresh batch of your Chicken Stew. I remember how you said that the broth helps to heal the body when it’s weak, and made sure he had triple doses of Vitamin C, and your EFA oils. That had to be the longest night of my life. We had no idea how he would be in the coming days, or if I had done the right thing. I began to question my judgment, but I kept my mood in the house elevated and calm.

We hydrated him with water in a syringe and made sure he continued to eat your Chicken Stew and take all of his supplements. Fortunately, we were able to tend to his wounds with your gentle calendula herbal solution.

The Happy Ending is that it’s been five days now and thanks to your compelling lessons; he no longer limps, can jump on the bed, and has resumed playing with his best buddy, Pebbles! I’m amazed that the wounds have healed so quickly and he is back to doing his special tricks again.

Seems he’ll do practically anything for Voyko’s Liver Treats.

Without your book and what I have learned from you over the years, I don’t know that I would’ve been able to care for him and bring him back to such great health in such a short time. He was a strong, healthy boy to begin with – thanks to you and your work, recipes and wisdom. I have to believe that God brought him back to me because he knew I really needed him.

I am so grateful for knowing you, your support and your recipes.

THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART FOR BETWEEN MY GOD AND YOUR KNOWLEDGE MY BOY IS STILL ALIVE AND HEALTHY FOR ME!!!!!!!

Lots and lots of love.

Christie Steele & Biscuit

  1. Dear Christie, my heart began to sink when I first saw your e mail but thank goodness you acted quickly and had faith in the power of real food. I’m so grateful to you for sharing your story and I’m so thrilled that Biscuit is recovering so well. Xox Andi

    1. Hi Chantal, the calendual herbal solution can be made with a number of rather exotic ingredients, but you will find topical solutions with calendula already available at the Health Food Store for human skin. This is probably your safest and easiest bet! I love the herb so much and use it on practically everything! xox Andi

  2. Biscuit is such a miracle dog. He is such a blessing and a big part of our hearts and lives! He has bounced back to being his happy self! I am blessed to have him in my life everyday. Thank You Andi for giving Christie such great pointers.

  3. Ok…I am at my wits end. I have four canine family members: 3 Siberian Huskies age 7 and a brother and sister will b 3 in December and my older (9 or 10?) chow mix mutt. I have been feeding them Halo (and my golden who passed in 2008) since 2007 or 2008. Recently my older dog was dx with severe heart disease (R & L) and has been in/out of Tufts inpatient and outpatient. He is doing wel right now with 10 different meds and I am good with that. (i am a nurse and have been active in approving these meds). In June my girl Husky (3 yo) became sick after I changed treats (made in China)…she is OK now afer 21 days antibiotics BUT all of this has led me to a path in taking charge of what goes in me/dtr and my canine children’s mouths……..I am making my own chicken jerky and pan to get a dehydrater fro Christmas to make it easier and also to use veggies, etc. I have bought your book last night as well as another holsitic vet book. I AM READY!! I came to you because of the advertisement that you are the founder of Halo………after reading your history and having the Tufts nutritionist (who only recommends Science diet and Proplan) tell me she does not recommend Halo………as well as the CHina treats I Feel so bad about what I have been doing (feeding) my pets and myself (watched Food Inc also). I am becoming passionate about this cause…. PLEASE help me …..Before I order any canned food (which my older SNippy has to eat) I need to knwo Sodium content, I need to know how to change their food (wean or just do it)….I have always fed dry food and leave it down for them to eat at will……never have I had an overwieght dog and they all eat out fo the same bowls (except for my older dog who has to eat separately…different food…) I am lost ……Also, what do you think of Coconut Oil? Tick and Flea and Heart worm prevention/control? They are all due for their annual and I dont knwo what to do

Dawn …..Snippy, Sabr, Demon & Smoki………………..help our mom help us!!

    1. Hi Dawn, Your questions are all very good ones, and I’m confident that we covered all the concerns on the phone yesterday! (Your questions could not be covered in one e mail… there were just too many!). I want to let all the other pet lovers know that we talked abou the benefits of homemade food and that Doc’s Stew – (my new healthy canned food) is so superior to ANYTHING on the market today and that once you have your sweet ones on it for a week or two.. you will definitely see improvement in so many ways! Please keep us posted on your new holistic journey. Wishing you and your pets – continued improved health! xoxo Andi

      1. Thank you, Andi for your very personal responses and calling me back so many times to make sure all my questions were addressed!!! Such personal attention is a statement in itself. I am ordering 2 cases today but will be using the recipes in your book that I received in just two days (yesterday!) as I have four dogs to serve and the expense of canned food is much. I will say that I found it difficult to get to the ordering page on the website and I still havent found how to include your other products in my food order…….It might be me but I am usually savy with technology…….go to your website and try to order food and even find out about the other products to add to an order…..let me know! and I will be journal-ling and will post progress!
        Dawn~

        1. I can’t wait for you to give us all kinds of feedback Dawn! Journal your progress. Together we will create the healthiest pets on the planet! BIG HUGS xoxox Andi (I’m glad you figured out the shopping cart… we are making changes to it soon.. 🙂

  4. Would the stew be suitable for a dog(mini schnauzer) who had a bladder stone Now on a Hills Perscription diet.
    Thank you

    Ann.

    1. Hi Ann, NOTHING could be better for your Schnauzer… except maybe Doc’s Stew:) Go for either one. You’re going to love the great health and the results! Perfect. xxo Andi

      1. Thanks for a fast reply. I have been looking at your book for a long time. Now time to take the plunge!!!

I have two Schnuzers,so I would love to feed the same food to both.

        Thank you.
        Ann.

  5. I see a stainless steel stockpot is desired. Mine is stainless but lined with enamel. It is a Le Creuset brand.

    Thanks again.
    Ann.

  6. About 2 weeks ago, Keira was gound to have luxating patella both knee. She is only 2 yrs old, will be 3 the end of February. Our vet sent us to a surgeon and his thinking was that surgery can wait until later. They were a grade 1. What if anything can i do to help her? She needs to lose about 3 or 4 pounds. The main thing she eats is the Spots stew that I make her. Are marrow bones safe for her to chew on? Tha y are raw.

    1. Judy, I would make the stew without the grains. Marrow bones are fine. Keep her slim. Also ascorbic acid (vitamin C) is a great choice for the benefits of building collagen. (this helps with muscles, ligaments and joints). Please get my book if you don’t have it already.. So much great information in it and will help you tremendously! xox

  8. andi, just a funny thing and also showes how much the food is loved.
Last week we attended a family function about 15o miles from home. When we got home, found that I had not thawed any food for Keira. Looked around and discovered a can of Blue Buffalo in the cabinet that I had overlooked. Opened it and put some in her bowl, she looked at it,then at me as if to say
“What is this junky stuff you have given me”, the proceeded to pick around the edges. Was so dissapointed with myself for my error.
