I am wondering about feeding fish to my cat as he has a history of crystals in his urine and has had infections as a result of blockage caused by same. I was given to understand that seafood increased the presence of crystals in their urine.
Hi Debby,
Too much fish could be problematic for any cat. Making the salmon and veggie patty as a special meal is a really yummy good thing. Tuna should never be given to a cat with a history of crystals. I believe that salmon, when used in the right proportions (along with poultry) is a wonderful source of protein and is easily assimilated by the body and processed through the kidneys. Choose your foods wisely. Make sure your sweet one NEVER gets dry food and start cooking wholesome foods that support the body to perform perfectly! xoxo
Thanks, Andi for your prompt reply! I have your book and have been using your diet for my Havernese. He was so ill last summer with vomiting and diarrhea….he lost so much weight and developed a bacterial infection, along with giardia. An ultrasound discovered a chronic bowel problem involving the lymphatic system. I firmly believe that your diet (which he loves) was instrumental, along with the antibiotics and then low doses of prednisone, saved his life. The meds did help to make a difference, but once they were cut back, he became ill again. After doing a lot of research on the web I discovered your site, ordered your book and began the new diet. It was the diet that made a huge difference. And he finally put some weight on, and got some energy back; his coat is thicker and healthier too. And the giardia is gone!
Now as for my cat with the urinary problem, I have been struggling to get both he and his sister onto your diet for cats, but they are highly resistive! I think I’ll try these salmon patties and see if I can break their addiction to their old diet prescribed by the vet.
Andi,I have 2 cats 6 and 7 yrs old, healthy but starting to get a paunch.. I bought your book and 6 cans of your canned stew one week ago. ,My cats have always eaten Wellness dry, natural balance can food, Stella and Chewys freeze dried organic surf and turf dinner, organic snacks and etc. I did not pussy foot around and stopped all their dry and canned food..I have made them chicken stew, your canned stew, and liver pat that they are mostly refusing to eat. and just walk away.. I am concerned. frustrated.frustrated.
Hi Marie.. WOW! I’m glad you wrote. I would say that you really changed everything possibly too fast. When we make a change with a cat who may be a “creature of habit” we want to make a change into one new thing at a time. Let’s start over and please choose ONE new dish that you want to give them. I would think that they would LOVE my canned food, because it’s a hit with almost every cat who comes in contact with it. You might have just offered too many new things right off the bat. I don’t EVER recommend dry food because of all the havoc it wreaks with the kidneys, so I’m glad you stopped that. Now start with just one thing and make the transition. Be calm. They will come around.. You’re a great Mom for trying! xoxo
I plan to try making my own pet’s food (my son already does) but most of the recipes call for chicken in some form. My 11 yr old Maltapoo is alergic to anything chicken and barfs it all up. I ASSUME I could use turkey rather than chicken, couldn’t I?
Also, I’d like to try your oils for my dogs – again, I worry about oils added to the diet. Help!
Hi Joyce, you can certainly substitute turkey for the chicken in any recipe, and/but I don’t believe that your dog is necessarily “allergic” to chicken… but perhaps sensitive to the inferior quality poultry in commercial pet foods. I think that the oils will enhance the life of any dog and if you get a copy of my book, I’m certain it will help you to make great decisions and choices for your sweet one. The Whole Pet Diet sheds a lot of light on how to have the healthiest pups on the planet! Keep us posted!

Hi Andi, I have a 9 month, male Goldendoodle puppy. Does your book have recipes suitable for my dog?
Hi Joya, WOW… there are amazing recipes for your sweet boy! Can’t wait to hear how well he does on the homemade foods and snacks! xoxox
I noticed that the recipes don’t have portion sizes. I have a 40 lb dog, what would the daily portion be for the salmon patties?
Hi Karen, My best advice is to make the stew your staple food for your sweet one. Salmon patties are an “alternative” meal. Depending on how big your patties are… ???? You need to be the judge of each portion size. Each pet is different, depending on the climate, activity level and age of the pet. Use your best judgement. start small and work your way up! I would give Holiday (50 pound Border Collie) one large patty for a meal. You get to decide… Every “kid” is different. xoxo Andi
