Andi Motley and Char-Char “A Story of Love”

Charlotte Josephine, aka “Charlee”, “Chucklebee”                       1999-2011

My Charlee Girl is the most amazing girl I have ever met.  She taught me more than I ever imagined possible.  A better friend there never was, even though she could never actually speak to me.  To this day, though she is not with me in a physical sense, she is still teaching me to dig deeper to achieve the things that are important…and how to be happy and “wag my tail” at EVERYTHING!

On Nov. 22, 2010 my baby girl was diagnosed with a nasal tumor that ended up being a bone sarcoma (cancer).  That same day while Charlee was undergoing a CT Scan and biopsy, my Mom and I headed to “Whole Foods” to try to distract ourselves and help pass the time.  As I looked at some books on nutrition, I had already begun praying that Charlee would be okay.  It was at that very time that I found a book… The Whole Pet Diet by Andi Brown.
Something about the book in my hand convinced me that this was what I needed to buy that day!  Honestly,
the fact that Andi’s name was the same as mine may be what convinced me…it was that simple of a reason…and I would come to find an answer to my prayer.  My world had been recently devastated by the suicide of a very close friend, and Charlee’s unconditional love was there to comfort me. Now the thought of losing Charlee was unbearable.

Within 5 days my Dad and I had made Charlee’s first double batch of Spot’s Chicken Stew…she LOVED it!  2 days after Char’s first taste of stew and with Andi’s book clenched in my hand, my Mom, Charlee, and I traveled back to MedVet to meet with a Radiation Oncologist. My stomach churned as we went through the entire consult with the specialist.  When I showed the Doctor the book she surprised me by stating that she believed in nutritional therapy herself.  The specialist took her time and I really appreciated her expertise, but something just didn’t feel right about her plans for radiation.

After searching Andi Brown’s website I decided to e-mail Andi to see if she had any advice.  Not being sure if people really answered these types of e-mails, my heart pounded as I got back online to see if there was a reply…and there was!!! Within a week Andi offered to call and speak to me as I had to make a decision about the radiation treatment.  I spoke to Andi for about 45 min. and by the time I got off of the phone I had decided that the right choice was the diet over the radiation in hopes that Char Char would be cured.  I truly believe it was the right decision as Charlee spent the rest of her days happy, pain free and eating the best she ever had in her life.

Through Charlee I was able to meet some everlasting friends; Andi Brown, Doctor Pam (our holistic vet), and Beth (Charlee’s friend who met with her weekly to do energy work). Our prayers were answered once again, on March 9, 2011, the day that Char Char faded easily from Earth into Heaven on her own with her 3 sisters, 1 brother, and CJ at her side.
I scanned through Charlee Girl’s journal for all of her favorite treats and recipes and some of which were created in her memory. They have been taste tested and approved by her sisters and brother: Krystee, Rigby, Carlos, and Rosee the cat!

  2. Andi Motley gave Char-Char the best life possible by making her food with her own loving hands. Char was a very, very special girl and I want to thank Andi for allowing me to be a part of their process together.
